First Lady Madame Gertrude Mutharika on…launched by-laws aimed at promoting girls education and ending child marriages in Mchinji District.
The by-laws have been formulated by traditional leaders and other stakeholders in Traditional Authority Mkanda’s area.
Madame Mutharika hailed the chiefs and stakeholders for taking up a significant step in the promotion of girls child education and ending child marriages.
Among other things, the by-laws prescribes hefty penalties to parents, gaurdians and anybody who forces or marries a child.
The laws also obliges parents and gaurdians to take huge interest in tracking down school progress of their wards.
