CHINA SUPPORTS FIRST LADY’S GIRLS’ EDUCATION EFFORTS

CHINESE AMBASSADOR SHI-TING WANG PRESENTS A DUMMY CHEQUE TO MADAME MUTHARIKA

The First Lady, Her Excellency Madam Dr. Gertrude Mutharika in her capacity as Founder and Chairperson of the Beautify Malawi (BEAM) Trust today 8th November, 2017 received a cheque donation worth MK21, 050, 000.00 from the government of the Peoples Republic of China for girl child education.

His Excellency Shi-Ting Wang, Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China handed over the cheque to the First Lady at a function held at Kamuzu Palace today November 8th 2017.

About 350 girls are expected to benefit from the donation through bursaries and provision of school supplies.

The ceremony was witnessed by various stakeholders including Sub, Traditional Authority Pitala and Gumba of Mchinji district and a representative of the UN Women Mrs Pamela Mkwamba.

Last year, the Chinese government also supported the Beautify Malawi Girls Education Programme with funds amounting to MK20 Million.

Over 1500 girls are on the Beautify Malawi bursary across the country. They include teen mothers, and young girls who dropped out of school or withdrawn from early marriages.
