BEAM CLEANS HOSPITAL PREMISES

The Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM} and Mulhako wa Alhomwe Friday cleaned Machinga District Hospital premises to contribute the hospital’s infection prevention drive.

BEAM Trust Liwonde chapter secretary, Mike Namakhwa said the Liwonde BEAM chapter started in August 2016 and aims at making Liwonde Township cleaner.

“This is in line with the Malawi’s First Lady Gertrude Mutharika’s objective of keeping Malawi cleaner,” He added.

Namakhwa said the Liwonde group will clean the township’s markets, bus depot and other public areas as part of keeping Liwonde cleaner.

Namakhwa said the BEAM Trust Liwonde chapter will also clean Machinga District Hospital wards soon.

He said the chapter is also intending to carry out fundraising activities to purchase bins that will be put in all strategic places within the township to promote hygiene.

Liwonde Township has litter in most places that needs clearing such that thin plastic litter has become an eye sore around the bus depot, market areas.

On BEAM Trust gesture, Machinga District Hospital Public Relations Officer, Clifton Ngozo said the hospital appreciates the move as this was complimentary to the institution’s efforts to remain infection free.

“We welcome this effort, “Ngozo said as the BEAM Trust Liwonde chapter and the Mulhako wa Alhomwe members were busy cleaning the hospital premises with blooms Friday morning while wearing protective hand and mouth wear.

Mulhako wa Alhomwe secretary for the Eastern Region, Samson Chibathi commended the Liwonde chapter for the chapter’s objective to keep the township cleaner.

Urbanization is evident in Liwonde Township as construction ranging small to bigger shops, dwelling houses both squatters and planned have mushroomed within the township in recent years.

Construction of a multibillion dry port along the Shire River will change the face of the township as construction of a new bridge over the Shire River is also coming soon.
