FIRST LADY URGES GIRLS TO WORK HARD

THE FIRST LADY MADAM GERTRUDE MUTHARIKA PRESENTS A CERITICATE TO ONE OF THE AWARDEES

The Malawi First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika has urged girls in the country to work hard in school to achieve their goals and contribute to national development.

She made the remarks on Wednesday at St Mary’s Secondary School in Zomba during the Best Girl MSCE Award presentation ceremony that was organized to recognize girls who scored six points in the 2017 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations.

“I urge girls to work hard in school. The sky is no longer the limit. Fly as high as you want,” said Madam Mutharika

Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Education Justin Saidi commended ZBS saying the initiative motivates girls to improve their academic performance as well as complements government’s efforts to educate girls.

“The number of girls scoring good grades at MSCE has significantly improved over the years,” he said.

In his remarks ZBS managing director Gospel Kazako said as a media house, ZBS will continue to compliment government efforts in various sectors including promotion of girls’ education.

St. Mary’s Headmistress Sister Annie Kapenda said the initiative has been a major motivating factor for high performance and academic competition amongst girls at her school and schools across the country.

Up to Ten girls from St. Mary’s, Nkhamenya, St. Michaels and Ludzi Girls Secindary Schools were awarded at the ceremony after scoring six points.

Apart from a medal of excellence, a certificate, a trophy and K50, 000 cash, each of the ten girls received an HP laptop computer complete with a computer bag from the First Lady.
