The First Lady Professor Gertrude Mutharika on Tuesday officially handed over medical equipment and supplies to Queen Elisabeth’s Gogo Chatinkha Maternity Wing in Blantyre.
The donation follows an appeal made by the Chatinkha Maternity Care (CHAMACA) during a fundraising dinner for the maternity wing held in Blantyre in 2016.
In her remarks the First Lady commended doctors and all staff at the Gogo Chatinkha maternity wing for their dedication and commitment to work despite lacking adequate resources.
Madam Mutharika pledged to continue trying her best in mobilizing resources for the Gogo Chatinkha Maternity wing and all other health facilities across the country to save lives of mother and newborn babies.
She hailed Emmanuel Mota Foundation through Mota Engil Malawi for heeding her appeal for the medical equipment.
Some of the key equipment that was donated include an Autoclave machine that was installed in the Chatinkha Maternity theatre, suction machines, wheel chairs, trolleys, beds and mattresses and many other supplies.
